COMING TO A CLOSE

I should be playing at the Brighton Bar tonight. But I’m not. For reasons I will not get into, I had no choice but to drop off the bill. It sucks because I love playing there, it’s one of my favourite rooms. Fortunately, the promoter understood why I had to cancel but rest assured, a future show will take place in 2019.

Biting my tongue here but moving on…

This year definitely flew by without a care in the world. It was only yesterday I was in the studio working on my new cd MARBLEHEAD. (And digging my car out the first day of recording too…) Said album came out May 15th this year and sold steadily. Did some shows, most went well. Do I wish things were better? Yes. I am never satisfied. That’s a curse and a blessing. I am never content, always wanting more and better.

The biggest “up yours” for me personally was having my songs played on WRAT 95.9 in Belmar, NJ. For years I heard “You will never get on the radio because you have no singer” and “Your music is too weird for radio.” Guess what? Tom Hanley took a chance with me when others retreated. He played not one, not two, but FOUR songs from the new cd.  Interviewed me four times as well. And those who said I would never be played…where are you now?

You all got quiet, huh?

Oh and I had two new signature pedals released a day apart. They are being ordered, so something’s clicking with the public. Rick Bethune over at Checkered Pedals is happy, so that’s good. Keeps him busy 🙂

2019 will be the year where I grab the bull by the horns and hang on tight. I have to schedule interviews to promote my cd as well as the upcoming shows. And yes, I am writing new music but am in no rush to record anything. I still need MARBLEHEAD to sell more and more, simple as that. I am super-proud of this cd, but usually albums have a shelf life of 12-15 months before people get bored. So maybe around summer 2019 I will start pre-production of album #8.

Yes you read that right. Album #8.

Let that sink in…

So while 2018 is coming to a close, I can safely say that I had a very good year musically. I did what others hoped I couldn’t and wouldn’t do.

Releasing a new album was one of them 😉
