GOING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD

Yeah I know I haven’t posted in a bit. Quite honestly, I really have nothing to discuss. But last night, as I was in my pretend studio, I felt compelled to pull out all of my albums. No I didn’t listen to them, but I took a pic of them in order…

All six of my albums. Three are out of print. You can see which ones on my TRIVIAL THINGS page.

I pulled out all the insert sleeves, read the credits, and realized just how far I’ve come with my music. Some of the THANK YOU credits are kinda laughable, a few cringeworthy, but that’s part of the growing process. And yes, I have had a lot of musicians swing through my door since 2003. They all contributed to my music in their own unique way, which is why no two of my albums sound alike.

Last year, during a radio show, someone said “Steve NEVER talks about his past albums!” Well, I prefer to look ahead, but allow me to give you brief glimpses into these cds…

TWISTED METAL (2003) was my first cd, recorded in 9 hours, purely to help promote Ibanez guitars and my new-found endorsement with them in 2003. Somehow it got people interested in my brand of weird music. I played bass on this as well as guitar, since I couldn’t land a bass player in time to record.

ALL WIRED UP (2004) ¬†was the first as a full trio, and this album was a lot of fun to record. It was recorded over a week, and it was the first time someone said my music was “ambitious”. That came from produced Mike Koenig (who sadly passed away in 2011). I really felt like I was on the rise with this cd, but life has a way of throwing a curveball…

JUPITER RETURN (2005) was not a fun record to make. I will always say the songwriting improved greatly but I rushed things and as a result, the production came out muddy and the vibes were not good. I felt my lucky streak take a downturn and honestly, it took a while for me to feel like I could recover.

ABOUT TO EXPLODE! (2008) should have been the album to come out after JUPITER but so be it. The sessions were fun but I didn’t get to properly promote this cd live so it fell to the wayside. Most people don’t even know it exists. But the title track wound up on a comp cd called SHREDDING ACROSS THE WORLD VOLUME 3, and that was a proud moment for sure.

GO BERZERK! (2011) took two years to get moving but when it came out…WOW! It was the first cd to sell really well for me, as well as seeing a ton of interest from people on Facebook and such. I thought my lucky streak was back. I need to stop thinking I have luck…

LAYERS OF TIME (2015) was a challenge for me, as I did everything, but the results are great! I am very proud of this cd, though it didn’t sell as many units as GO did. This album really pushed me to the wall as far as writing creative melodies and going into some sonic territories that I didn’t think I could pull off. Got to play some really big shows with this cd, so there you go!

And there you have it, all six of my albums, and three are no longer in print. I have no desire to re-release them. In fact, I do NOTHING from TWISTED, WIRED, and ABOUT. I do “Burn The Sky” from JUPITER but that’s as far back as I want to go. I want to get crackin’ with the new cd, but that may take a bit more time than I expected.

Those of you who have shown genuine support for my music, I thank you. And to all my past band members, I do thank you for your contributions.

Now I can move ahead…
